How to use electric drills to drill holes into your home
- by admin
Electric drills are becoming more popular as a home safety tool and are also used to drill for gas lines, plumbing and other home-related issues.
They’re being touted as a safer alternative to other drilling methods, but they also pose a risk of fire.
The Home Safety Association of Canada (HSAC) warns electric drill manufacturers should be cautious about what they’re selling.
Electric drill components are becoming popular, but their safety should be closely monitored, says HSAC president and CEO Jim Lomax.
“This is a very dangerous activity,” Lomak says.
“They’re very volatile, they’re very dangerous.”
Lomack says electric drill components should not be used to blow open doors, and if they do, they should be handled with extreme care.
“When you blow the valve on a house, you’re literally going to go through a huge wall of gas,” Lompak says, “and if you don’t have an electric drill to deal with the gas, you’ll have a big hole in the house.”
If you’re unsure about the safety of an electric drilling method, contact a local professional electrician.
Lomac’s advice for electric drill safety: Always have a qualified electrician at home with you.
If you have a professional electricians at home, use them to inspect the drilling tool for safety.
